High-quality pub grub in Notting Hill from the new school of British cooking

This fashionable Notting Hill address specializing in Irish rock oysters with Guinness and other seafood was one of London's first gastro-pubs to prove that the food in British pubs is no longer universally awful—courtesy of chef Tom Conran, son of the famous chef Sir Terrance Conran.

Their Fish Stew is phenomenal, as is crab and (for meat-lovers) the flaky steak Cow Pie—though seafood is where the kitchen truly shines.

The pub downstairs is classic and comfy, the upstairs dining room with its white tablecloths and red booths light and airy.

Monday to Wednesday they offer a set-price lunch at £18 for two courses, £23 for three courses.

The Sunday roast goes for £19.
