Leave your central London hotel or Heathrow Airport by luxury coach and relax on the journey south, passing through London’s busy urban streets and into the tranquil Kent countryside – an area known as the Garden of England. While traveling, your host will talk to you about your destination -- beautiful Dover Castle! Built in the 12th century, the castle was known as the ‘lock and key to England’ due to its strategic location, wedged in the countryside between the capital and the coast.

After traveling for roughly two hours, arrive at Dover Castle and spend roughly about two hours exploring this incredible site independently (own expense). Highlights include the opulently furnished Great Tower, where members of King Henry VII’s royal court would meet, and the Secret Wartime Tunnels that were used in wars dating back to Napoleonic times. Perhaps soak up Dover Castle’s medieval grandeur on a walk around its immaculately kept gardens, or simply relax at the on-site café before returning to your coach.

Having explored Dover Castle independently, continue to Dover Port. Your host will drop you off outside the Dover cruise terminal in time for your cruise.

Leave your central London hotel by luxury coach and relax on the journey west, passing through London’s busy urban metropolis and into the peaceful Wiltshire countryside. While traveling, your tour manager will give you some insights into Wiltshire’s most intriguing relic – Stonehenge – and explain a few of the theories about the building of this Megalithic stone circle.

After traveling for roughly 1.5 hours, arrive at Stonehenge and spend time exploring this incredible site independently. While strolling around this UNESCO World Heritage Site, ponder the tales your tour manager told you earlier, and make up your own mind about how and why it came to stand. Was it built as an astrological observatory, or was it perhaps intended as a sacred burial place? How did the gigantic Sarsen stones get to the site when no machinery existed to transport them?

Meet your guide at 6am in London's St Pancras Station and hop aboard a high-speed train to Paris. Relax and watch the scenery fly by your window during the approximately 2 hour journey. Once you arrive in Paris, explore on a 1.5-hour panoramic city tour, visiting major sites like the Opera House, Champs-Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Moulin Rouge, Le Louvre, and more.

Arrive by the pier, next to the Eiffel Tower, for a 1-hour river cruise along the Seine. Enjoy the views of Notre Dame, Musee D'Orsay, Grand Palais, Statue de la Liberté, and the Assemblée Nationale. In the early afternoon, spend some free time visiting sights on your own. Your guide will give tips on what to see and do as you venture out on your own.

You might head to the shopping district or soak up the atmosphere with a lunch (own expense). Later, return to Gare du Nord 45 minutes prior to the train's scheduled departure time for your return journey to London. Your train departs at around 7pm, and will arrive back in London at about 8:30pm.

Stonehenge

Oxford
Soak up the local culture on a walking tour around the historic town of Oxford, and see the Oxford Colleges, where notable figures like Bill Clinton, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis received an education. Also check out the Old Bodleian library, a working research library that dates back to the year 1602.

Windsor Castle
Your day tour will continue to Windsor Castle, home of the Queen of England. This majestic castle is the scene of 900 years of British history, and generations of the British Royal Family have conducted their business here. See the formal State Apartments in all their lavish glory, as well as St George’s chapel — home to the Order of the Royal Garter, made up of 25 knights of the British Empire.

After our central London pickups we head off to Wiltshire, where our first stop will be the medieval village of Avebury. Avebury is ringed by the largest stone circle in the world and the product of Neolithic man. You will have free time to explore this picturesque and historic area.

The group will then walk up the hillside to West Kennet Long Barrow, a 5000 year old Neolithic burial tomb. You will be taken to the burial site and given lots of information about it history by your tour manger.

Then depart for Stonehenge where you will be given special access to the Stone Circle when the site is closed to the general public. The tour will last an hour and is guided by a local expert who will explain the history of the ancient site. After our special access tour of Stonehenge we head back to London.

Meet your expert guide in London and set off by coach to the historic city of Oxford, approximately a 1.5-hour drive away. As you travel, your guide will keep you entertained with stories about this must-visit city, home to the world-famous Oxford University.

The colleges that make up Oxford University represent the city’s architectural highlights, and you’ll explore these during a comprehensive walking tour. Wander through ornate chapels, lavish libraries and spacious halls.

Before leaving the city, you’ll have free time to discover its endearing charms independently. Perhaps visit one of its famous ‘Old English’ inns for lunch (own expense) or maybe explore Oxford’s wealth of interesting streets and independent shops.

In the early afternoon, hop back on board your luxury coach and head to the pretty village of Bampton in Oxfordshire, the setting for the exterior village scenes in the TV show 'Downton Abbey'. See Matthew Crawley's mother's house as well as the hospital from the second series. Learn about how the current villagers' homes are transformed into the Post Office and the pub for the TV show, and explore the Bampton Archive and local exhibitions to learn about the village history.

After visiting Bamtpon, head south to Highclere Castle in Hampshire. Famous as the filming location for the hit TV series Downton Abbey, the stately castle dates to the Victorian era and is set in the middle of 1,000 acres (405 hectares) of stunning parkland.

With your guide, tour this incredible castle and see rooms frequented by the likes of Lady Mary, Cousin Matthew, Lord Grantham and other characters in the popular Edwardian drama. Venture through the magnificent main hall, library and sitting rooms, and learn about the real-life family — the Carnarvons — who lived in the castle since the 17th century.

After your walking tour of Highclere Castle, enjoy some free time to explore the beautiful grounds or relax with a hot drink and cake in the castle's tea rooms (own expense). Your full-day tour finishes back in London, where you’ll arrive in the early evening.

Guided Day Trip:
Meet your friendly local guide at Paris’ Gare du Nord, and then board your open-top double-decker hop-on hop-off bus for a whistle-stop tour of the city. Take a seat and gaze at Paris’ A-list attractions, and then hop off at the Eiffel Tower and head up to the second level. As you walk around the viewing platform, your guide will share highlights of the monument’s history, and then leave you to gaze out at the City of Lights.

After a break for lunch in town (own expense), meet your guide and walk to the water’s edge for your Seine River sightseeing cruise. Have your camera poised to capture photos of the historical buildings that line the UNESCO-listed river banks; Hôtel de Ville and Notre Dame Cathedral are just a couple of the sights you’ll see.

Having admired the sights of Paris from the water, step back onto dry land and visit Notre Dame Cathedral independently. Marvel at its ornate Gothic architecture and 13th-century rose window, and then enjoy some free time for shopping in the Opera neighborhood. Your time in Paris finishes with a drop-off at Gare du Nord.

Please note: wait lines at the Eiffel Tower are often long. If they are deemed too long on the day of your tour, your guide may suggest a visit to the Louvre Museum or Musee D'Orsay, instead.

Start your tour with a pickup at your London hotel, then take a seat in your vehicle for the onward journey out of the city to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyards. Home to some of the most famous British ships to have ever sailed the seven seas, the dockyard is widely considered among Portsmouth’s top attractions.

On arrival, follow your guide on a tour of the site and admire famous vessels including King Henry VIII’s flagship the Mary Rose. Speculation about its purpose ranges from religious worship to studying the stars, so make sure you listen to your complimentary audio-guide to hear the different theories. See the beautiful Bluestone rocks on the inside of the circle, and wonder at how these 40-ton stones could have been transported and who could have carved them in such a distinctive way.

See the breathtaking ‘dreaming spires', the unspoilt narrow alleys, the Bodleian Library and the ancient squares of this beautiful town.

Entry to Brasenose College. Named after its bronze door knocker. The lawyer, Sir Richard Sutton and William Smyth, Bishop of Lincoln founded Brasenose College in 1509. It boasts fairytale architecture and a rolling green lawn. Past students include David Cameron, current Prime Minister and the writer William Golding.

The Cotswolds, experience breathtaking countryside views of sleepy market towns and villages during a gentle drive through one of England's most picturesque regions.

Shakespeare’s Birthplace at Stratford–Upon–Avon. Stratford–upon–Avon was the home of the world's most famous and revered writer, William Shakespeare. Visit the quaint half–timbered house where the Bard was born and get fascinating insights into his childhood.

Warwick Castle, visit the excellent medieval hive that is Warwick Castle. Enter the Great Hall and immerse yourself in battle preparations. Feel the weight of a medieval sword, become a soldier, try a battle helmet on for size and visit the State Rooms to feast your eyes on Victorian party preparations.

Estimated arrival time back in London is around 7pm.

Make your own way to the meeting point in central London, then board a comfortable mini-coach for a scenic 100-mile (161-kilometer) drive to your first destination, Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of England’s greatest playwright, William Shakespeare.

Your guide shares informative commentary as you stop at the places in Stratford-upon-Avon that are relevant to Shakespeare's life, including Shakespeare’s Birthplace— the 16th-century house where he was born and lived until he was a young man; Holy Trinity Church—where he was baptized and buried; and his school.

After exploring the bard’s home town, stop briefly in Shottery for a photo op of the thatched-roof cottage of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare’s wife. Then continue south to reach the Cotswolds, a beautiful region that became prosperous in the Middle Ages due to the wool trade.

Drive along one-track lanes that pass through gentle rolling hills, honey-colored villages, green pastures and ancient churches. After lunch, leave the Cotswolds and go to the city of Oxford, home to prestigious Oxford University, which was founded in 1167. After a pickup from Victoria Coach Station, travel by coach to Stratford-upon-Avon to visit the birthplace of William Shakespeare: one of the greatest writers in the English language. Take a private tour of Shakespeare's Schoolroom before it opens to the public, and enjoy a school lesson included with your tour. Then, enjoy some free time to explore the market town that’s home to the theaters of the famous Royal Shakespeare Company. A river winds its way through the town past Holy Trinity church, where Shakespeare is buried. There are half-wooden buildings which date back to Shakespeare's time, including the cottage of Anne Hathaway, who he married in 1582. Continue from Stratford-upon-Avon to Warwick, home to Warwick Castle. With a history dating back over 1,000 years, the castle will take you to an era of banquets, battles and royal splendor. After entering, your guide will leave you to explore independently. Listen to an introduction to the historical site from Warwick Castle’s history team, and then explore the site at leisure. See the waxwork displays from Madame Tussauds that are showcased at the castle, and see and hear of the Earl of Warwick's preparations for battle. Then, perhaps take a look at the ghostly dungeons where prisoners were tortured.

Then travel to Oxford, a city that boasts one of the world's greatest and oldest universities as well as some of the finest architecture in Europe. See it all on a walking tour, and learn all about the colleges themselves, with their ivy-clad stone walls that protect the beautiful chapels, halls and libraries.

Then, simply meet your guide back on board your coach to travel back to central London.

Day 1: Liverpool

Day 2: London

The Beatles developed their craft at the iconic Abbey Road recording studio as well as making TV, radio and live performances and socialising at the many swinging hotspots where exclusive clubs and 'happenings' were the places to be seen.

The city provides the backdrop for all the LP covers from the first to the last; the locations for 'Hard Day's Night', 'Help' and 'Magical Mystery Tour'; even the 'Penny Lane' promotional film was largely shot in London locations.

Depending on your age, this is either a chance to wallow in glorious nostalgia, or grab an 'education' in Rock history, its legends and myths, and of course walk over that famed Abbey Road crossroads. Enjoy a lovely drive through England’s picturesque countryside featuring thatched cottages and charming villages. Arrive at Stonehenge amidst the ancient and historical landscape of Wessex. Here, your guide will enrich you with facts and theories behind these famous Stone Age structure erected in about 3,000 BC. After taking time to explore this impressive and mysterious site, enjoy a relaxing drive back to London.

After central London pickups, begin your journey to Dover to view one of the country’s most spectacular natural features, the White Cliffs of Dover. The cliffs are part of the North Downs formation and reach up to 350 feet.

Once you have taken plenty of photos of the beautiful views, start the short trip to one of the largest castles in the country Dover Castle (own expense). The castle was strategically placed at the shortest crossing point to continental Europe, and you will have plenty of time to explore the grounds and learn all about the history of the castle from the Romans to the Cold War.

Your final destination is Canterbury where you will have access to Canterbury Cathedral, Mother Church of the worldwide Anglican Communion and cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the Church of England. You will have plenty of time to explore the cathedral as well as see what the rest of Canterbury has to offer, such as St. Martin’s Church, St Augustine’s Abbey, or the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge which is an Art Museum and Library (admission is free). Whatever you find to do in Canterbury, this beautiful town will not disappoint.

After a full day in Kent, you will depart back to London with an expected arrival time of 7pm (your tour manager will provide an exact time and location to meet back at the coach).

Head to Euston Station for your 2.5-hour train journey to Oxenholme. On arrival you will be met by a local guide and hop aboard a minibus.

Head to Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's 17th-century farmhouse, which retains much of its original character and is crammed with references to her life and stories. Bought in 1905 with proceeds from her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, the author used the farmhouse and its surroundings as a source of inspiration for her work.

The next stop on the tour is the medieval village of Hawkshead. The area is acknowledged by many as the prettiest village in the Lake District, characterized by its cluster of whitewashed houses and alleyways, cobbled streets, squares, and courtyards of the car-free village center.

Next it's time to enjoy the majestic mountain views and beautiful countryside from Tarn Hows, before a scenic cruise on Windermere, the largest lake in England.

The afternoon finishes with a cream tea at Lindeth Howe Country Hotel, bought by Beatrix Potter for her mother in 1915. You'll be dropped off at Oxenholme Station in plenty of time to catch your 6:30 p.m return train to London.

Leave London on your air-conditioned coach and travel west to Windsor, the home of Windsor Castle, an official residence of Queen Elizabeth II. Extending over 13 acres (five hectares), this imposing castle houses lavish State Apartments, Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and magnificent St George’s Chapel, the burial place of King Henry VIII.
On arrival, show your pre-booked ticket or pay your entrance fee (depending on the option selected), and head inside to view the State Apartments, St George’s Chapel and other highlights, all brought to life by audio guide commentary. The display of British pageantry that is the Changing of the Guard takes place in the Castle precincts on an almost daily basis, so you may catch this colorful morning ceremony if your tour takes place on one of the days it occurs and if you have purchased an entrance ticket to the Castle.
Alternatively, use your time to explore the town of Windsor and stroll around its quaint streets. You may also see the New or Old Guard of soldiers marching to the Castle if your tour coincides with a Changing of the Guard ceremony. Usually accompanied by a military band, the Guards march through central Windsor in their bright red tunics and bearskin helmets, making an impressive sight.
After around two hours in Windsor, head for Stonehenge. This UNESCO-listed stone circle rears dramatically from Salisbury Plain and is cloaked in mystery. Perhaps purchase an entrance ticket from your guide and take an audio-guided tour that delves into the stones’ spiritual importance and their associations with figures such as King Arthur and Merlin. Or view Stonehenge independently from outside and ponder its mysteries yourself as you take photos of this incredible prehistoric monument.
Later, continue to Oxford. Home to Britain’s oldest university, the colleges of this honey-stoned town inspired scholars such as Lewis Carroll and J R R Tolkien. Take an included walking tour to admire Christchurch College, the Bodleian Library and Sheldonian Theatre as you listen to your guide’s crystal-clear commentary on your Vox headphones.
Afterward, return to London where your tour ends with a drop-off at Victoria coach station.

Start your day with a panoramic tour of London! Sit back as your driver and guide take you through the city and past some of London’s most famous sights. You’ll stop at Westminster Abbey, so you can get that all-important photo of the spectacular church where William and Kate were married!

The tour will then reach St Paul’s Cathedral, the huge domed church in the old City of London. The 1,000 year old Tower of London has a history you have to see to believe! You’ll have plenty of time to explore this incredible fortress during our extended afternoon visit. Enjoy free time to explore the Tower of London as you wish, learning about its fascinating past. The Tower of London has been used as a palace, royal mint and zoo! See the gorgeous Crown Jewels, kept under lock and key in the Jewel Tower.

Meet The Beefeaters, or Yeoman Warders, are the Tower of London’s official guardians! Hear the tales of the Beefeaters during your exclusive tour with one of the Tower’s working Yeoman Warders. Listen as the smartly-dressed Beefeater recounts stories about their often grisly role in keeping watch over the Tower of London’s prisoners. Luckily, this isn’t part of their job description anymore and these important people are all retired members of the Armed Forces.

Break out of the Tower of London for a River Thames Boat Ride. This scenic trip down the Thames will show you some city sights from an entirely different perspective as you cruise towards the London Eye. Finish your London day trip on a high! See London from the skies during a flight on the iconic London Eye. Your tour will finish at approximately 6pm at the London Eye.

After the central London pickups we begin our journey to Cambridge. Upon arrival you will be given a guided sightseeing tour by your tour manager who will be able to provide you with loads of information and facts about the University City. You will also be given entrance into the Tower of Saint Mary the Great. The tower provides the best panoramic view over the city skyline offering views of the King’s College to the south, Senate House to the east as well as the busy Cambridge Market.

The remainder of the day is left to you to explore. With plenty of things for you to do in Cambridge, we are sure your day will be packed full of exciting activities! Why not visit the popular art and antiquities museum Fitzwilliam Museum (entrance is free) or perhaps visit one of the world's oldest universities and leading academic centers, The University of Cambridge. The university’s reputation for outstanding academic achievement is known world-wide and all of the College chapels are open to the public at select times, and most of the Colleges are also open for visits (a small fee may be charged for visitors and access may be limited during term time). You may also be keen to visit the University’s Botanic where you can discover plants from all over the world in 40 acres of beautiful gardens and glasshouses (admission not included).

After a fun day discovering all that Cambridge has to offer your coach will depart from Cambridge at roughly 4pm (your Tour Manager will inform you of when you need to be back at the coach) and head back to central London with the approximate arrival time of 6pm.

Departing at 09.15am from the Greenline Coach Terminal, you head north west out of London, passing close to Pinewood Film Studios and through the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The picturesque countryside here is stunning and has inspired the television shows, Midsummer Murder and Vicar of Dibley.

Your first stop is Oxford, where you have time to explore the beautiful listed buildings. Explore the precincts of the many colleges, climb one of the vantage points to take in the skyline, or see the art and antiquities collections in the Ashmolean Museum. The choice is yours.

We then spend the afternoon touring the beautiful villages of the Cotswolds, with their tiny ironstone cottages that have remained unchanged for centuries.

We’ll visit Bampton, a village with a long association with traditional Morris Dancing. You can explore the magnificent parish church of St Mary, where many iconic scenes from Downton Abbey were filmed.

Our next stop is in Burford, the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’. It’s a small market town with enormous character and a huge history. The main street is lined with gorgeously quaint cottages and properties.

You have time to take in the local charm and hospitality; and if you’re thirsty you could have a traditional English ‘Afternoon Tea’ . Finally, you make the short journey to Bibury, described by William Morris as the prettiest village in England, and the place that Henry T Ford wished to dismantle and ship back to the USA.

Here we have time to stroll past the famous and fairytale-like Arlington Row. After a full day exploring the city of Oxford and the villages of the Cotswolds we’ll embark on the comfortable return journey to London. We aim to return at approximately 7pm.

Board a coach in central London in the morning, pop in your state-of-the-art Vox headphones and relax on the drive out of the busy city and into the scenic English countryside. Enjoy clear, crisp commentary about the sights from your guide, piping straight into your personal earbuds, adjusting the volume to your preferences. On the way, you’ll drive through Greenwich, home of the Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian, where the world’s time is set.

Arrive at Leeds Castle before the crowds arrive for a tour of the 12th-century castle and grounds. Leeds Castle is picture-perfect, set in a shimmering lake and surrounded by idyllic greenery that spans 500 acres (202 hectares). Inside, admire a superb collection of medieval furniture and tapestries and Impressionist art, and learn how the castle has traded hands over the centuries. Stop by the bird aviary and try your hand at the castle's popular maze formed by towering hedges.
Next, head to Canterbury Cathedral, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage–listed Gothic church built in the 11th century. Canterbury Cathedral is considered the birthplace of English Christianity, so it comes with some fascinating history. With your Vox headphones, your guide has the unique privilege of leading your large group into the quiet cathedral for a tour of the treasures that lie inside.
Re-board the coach for a drive through the Kent countryside, known as the Garden of England, with its quaint villages and pretty landscapes. Reach the coast to admire the White Cliffs of Dover — towering chalk-white cliffs overlooking the historic English Channel. Look up to see England's largest castle, Dover Castle, looming on the hilltop.

After a day full of sightseeing, arrive back in London in the evening.

Departing from Central London (unescorted) in the morning or in the afternoon, go directly to Stonehenge for an extended visit. Audio guides are available in different languages.

Stonehenge, wander around this mystical world heritage site and be captivated by the unique and ancient stone structure. Situated on Salisbury Plain, rocks as heavy as 40 tonnes stand alone since their mysterious placement there 5,000 years ago. Many theories surround Stonehenge; from the belief it is an astronomical rock or a religious temple to even a Bronze Age burial ground. Decide for yourself as you learn about the fascinating history behind this glorious monument. After Stonehenge board your coach for the return journey to London.

This guided James Bond Locations Tour is designed for true fans of 007, the most famous spy in the world. Led by a knowledgeable James Bond expert, you will get behind-the-scenes information on how the films were made, see movie clips as you pass the actual locations and discuss the books and your favourite moments from the films. The tour is limited to a maximum of 12 persons.

Throughout the tour, you will of course be given plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs, take pictures and enjoy the experience of being at the film locations up-close and personal.

Part 1: Shrublands from Thunderball and Zukovskys Casino from The World is Not Enough
Heading straight out of London by mini coach, your day will begin with a stop outside the location used as Shrublands in Thunderball. From here, we transport you to the Victorian country house built for Alfred de Rothschild, which was used as the interior and exterior location for Zukovskys casino in The World is Not Enough. Your tour will take in the scenes from this movie and also highlight its history and use in other screen productions.

Part 2: Lunch at Dervals hotel, The Bladen Safe House and the milkman scene
The next destination will be a charming town in the Chilterns to visit the 18th century coaching inn, which stood in for the hotel where Major Derval stays in Thunderball; a stop will be taken here for lunch. Following a hearty lunch fit for a secret agent, you will get a chance to visit the picturesque 12th century house in the Chiltern hills of Oxfordshire featured as The Bladen Safe House in The Living Daylights, the secret location from where Koskov is abducted by Necros.  In a country lane close by, you also get the chance to track down the exact spot where Necros covertly eliminates the milkman.

Part 3: Goldfingers golf club, a photo-stop outside Pinewood Studios and Bonds London home
The finale of the day tour is the setting for one of the all-time classic on-screen confrontations between Bond and his nemesis, Auric Goldfinger. Here you will enjoy afternoon tea, get a tour of the clubhouse and see the famous 18th hole where Goldfinger concedes to Bond. After this, you will be able to pay your respects at the location used as the resting place for Teresa Di Vicenzo/Tracy Bond in For Your Eyes Only. There will be a short photo-stop outside Pinewood Studios, the leading destination for film makers and where the Bond films have been made since Dr No in 1962. From here, you head back to London, leaving just enough time to drop by the West London location used as Bonds apartment in SPECTRE.

Your tour will begin with pickup in central London by a luxury, air-conditioned mini-bus (with Wi-Fi). Your small group will then begin its journey to the Royal town of Windsor and Windsor Castle. Equally impressive inside and out, you will have the opportunity to tour the castle and visit the Grand State Apartments or even see the changing of the guard on certain dates. If you’d rather not visit the castle, you can explore Windsor itself and wander along the Long Walk to view the castle from the outside.

Continue on to Henley-on-Thames, an idyllic market town along the river. You can enjoy lunch (at own expense) in the town and take beautiful photos of the 18th century Henley Bridge that crosses the River Thames.

Then, visit the stunning city of Oxford, home to the oldest university in the English-speaking world. While in Oxford, you have the opportunity to join a free, guided walking tour to hear about the city’s history, architecture and local personalities. Finally, return to central London at approximately 6:30pm.

After an early morning pickup from central London, begin the journey to the port to take either the Eurotunnel or a ferry to France. Arrive in France and commence your coach journey to Brugge, Belgium. The estimated time of arrival in Brugge is 1:30pm where you will have the remainder of the afternoon to explore the city.

Brugge is the capital of the Belgian province of West-Flanders with a population of 120,000 people. This large city has plenty to offer with a variety of museums to visit such as The Groeninge Museum or The Bruges Beer Museum. The city also has many historical sites to visit on your day tour such as the statue of the renowned Bruges painter Jan van Eyck (1370 – 1441) or the Rozenhoedkaai that continues to be one the most photographed spots in Bruges. You may also enjoy a panoramic view of Brugge at the top of the Belfry in the city center.

At approximately 5pm, depart from Brugge to cross back to the UK. The approximate arrival time back in to central London is 11:30pm.

Start with a pickup in central London, and travel out of the city to visit majestic Windsor Castle. Be one of the first visitors of the day, and beat the crowds as you explore the elegant State Apartments and St George’s Chapel with your guide. The castle is one of the Queen’s weekend retreats, and is the perfect place to experience some 900 years of pageantry at your own pace.

Continue onward to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Stonehenge, one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in the world. Stonehenge is thought to date back nearly 5,000 years, and very little is known of its origins. Was it a place of pagan sun worship? Could it have been an ancient burial ground? Decide for yourself as you explore the site.

Your next stop is the pretty village of Lacock, one of the most picturesque settings in the country. Lacock dates back to Saxon times, and has been used more recently as the setting for movies and television dramas such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and the adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Take the weight off your feet and sit down for lunch at the George, a traditional English pub built in the 14th century. On rare occasions, when the George is closed, a carefully selected alternative pub may be visited for lunch instead.

Continue to your final stop in the charming Georgian city of Bath, once home to the famous British author Jane Austen. Start the visit with a coach tour of the city, and see top Bath attractions such as Pulteney Bridge and the Royal Crescent as well as the honey-colored Georgian architecture for which the city is famed. After getting your bearings, set off on a short stroll with your guide and scout out the Roman Baths and beautiful Bath Abbey. Walk around the city’s cobbled streets, shop for souvenirs and take time to pose for photos in front of the beautiful buildings.

Please note: on busy days, this tour may operate in reverse order and visit Bath first.

Start your day trip at Victoria Coach Station to meet your guide and board the coach to Windsor Castle.

When you pull up outside the castle, an official residence of Queen Elizabeth II, head inside with your included ticket and audio guide to explore highlights like the State Apartments and St. George’s Chapel. Depending on timing, you might also be able to watch the guards, dressed in cherry red tunics and bearskins, performing the famous Changing of the Guard ceremony.

After roughly two hours, continue to Stonehenge, the mysterious, UNESCO World Heritage-listed stone circle set on the Salisbury Plain. During the audio tour, hear the theories behind the creation of this prehistoric site, as well as its association with Merlin and King Arthur.

Next, head for the honey-hued city of Oxford, home to Britain’s oldest and perhaps most prestigious university. Plug into your provided headset and follow in the footsteps of luminaries like J.R.R. Tolkien with a guided tour of the university’s famous buildings, including Christchurch College and the Bodleian Library.

When the time comes, journey back to London by coach, where your day trip ends at Victoria Coach Station.

Leave London’s Marble Arch by air-conditioned minivan, and travel west to the rolling limestone hills of Oxfordshire. On the journey, your guide will keep you entertained with tales and trivia about the Downton Abbey TV series that has a fan base spread all over the world.

Filmed mostly in and around Oxfordshire, the British period drama of Downton Abbey documents the dramas and scandals of the fictional Crawley family and their servants in the days leading up to and after World War I. Hear insider gossip about characters such as Lady Mary, and discover little-known facts about the shooting locations included on your tour. Stop at a farm nestled in the hills near Cogges and enjoy a hot drink (own expense) in the farm’s rustic cafe before you check out filming locations around the farm.

Continue to Bampton in the Cotswolds. The stone cottages and leafy, twisting streets in this quintessential English village might look familiar; scenes depicting the Downton village are often shot here and appear throughout the entire series. On a walking tour, see the village church — the site of Lady Mary’s wedding to Matthew Crawley — and the house that was once used as the Crawley family home. Stroll along the main street, spotting shops and the fictional Grantham Arms pub that appear in many episodes.

Travel onward to the historical village of Shilton to explore its center, including a quaint village pub that is surrounded by ponds, medieval bridges and wells. From Shilton, travel to a pub in Swinbrook for lunch (own expense) where Lady Sybil eloped with the family chauffeur Branson; enjoy a quick stop in the village of Bladon to see the graves of Sir Winston Churchill and his wife; and finish the tour at Blenheim Palace — a UNESCO World Heritage site.

While not used as a Downton Abbey filming location, one can imagine the palace's stately grandeur that would impress the Crawley family. Take a walking tour that delves into the history of Winston Churchill's ancestral home, originally given to the first duke of Marlborough as a gift from the English Parliament. Wander through the State Apartments, and then explore a section of the beautiful landscaped gardens that feature the Temple of Diana. Finally, return to your minivan and travel back to London where your tour finishes.

After our central London pickups we make our way to the birthplace of William Shakespeare, Stratford- Upon- Avon. Here you are given access to his home (entry included) and are taken back in time to discover how he lived his childhood as well as the early years of his married life with Anne Hathaway. Millions of Shakespeare enthusiasts flock here annually to relive his life and appreciate his work. You will also be given some free time to explore Stratford where you may enjoy discovering more about Shakespeare’s life by visiting Ann Hathaway’s cottage and gardens (entrance not included) or perhaps you may enjoy shopping in Stratford with its many choices ranging from gift shops to antique shops, boutiques to bookshops and plenty more.

We then take a scenic drive through the beautiful Cotswolds villages, an area in Southern England renowned for its beauty and unspoilt honey stone-built houses, historical towns and stately homes and gardens. The coach will stop at certain point so that you can take some wonderful pictures of the scenery and surroundings.

Our last stop of the day is to the city of Oxford, otherwise known as the ‘City of Dreaming Spires’, where you will enjoy a walking tour with your guide who will point out many points of interest such as The Sheldonian Theatre, Balliol College and the museum of History of Science. You will again be given some free time to take a look around the city. You may wish to visit some of the points pointed out to you on your walking tour or perhaps visit the oldest university in the English-speaking world, the University of Oxford (please note: some of the colleges may be shut during certain times of the year and admission fees may apply) or maybe climb the Carfax tower for magnificent views of the city.

After a full day we will begin our journey back to central London arriving at approximately 7pm (your tour manager will give you an exact time and location to meet back at the coach).

After an early start, you'll visit Windsor Castle, where more than 900 years of royal history await. Windsor Castle, the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, is today one of the official residences of Her Majesty The Queen. Walk through the magnificent grounds and explore the State Apartments. If you're lucky you may catch the official Changing of the Guard or soak up the splendor of St. George's Chapel. After your visit to Windsor, you'll take a drive through Runnymede, where King John signed the Magna Carta.

Next, immerse yourself in the lavishly furnished rooms from the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace! The palace hosts many official events and receptions held by the Queen, so areas are exclusively opened for limited time only during the summer so book early!

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of Britain's sovereigns since 1837, and today it is the Queen's official residence. Take the audio tour and learn about the royal history. Your visit is independent and will conclude here so you can explore at leisure.

Diamonds: A Jubilee Celebration

This spectacular exhibition shows the many ways in which diamonds have been used by British monarchs over the last 200 years. It includes a number of The Queen’s personal jewels - those inherited by Her Majesty or acquired during her reign. The exhibition reveals how many of these extraordinary stones have undergone a number of transformations, having been re-cut or incorporated into new settings during their fascinating history.

Depart central London in the early morning and head north by train on your 4.5-hour journey to Edinburgh. Travel through England’s open countryside, skirt the canals and waterways of the Midlands and pass old mill towns built during the Industrial Revolution. Upgrade to first class train tickets if you wish, for wider seats, complimentary snacks, free Wi-Fi and quieter coaches.

On arrival in Edinburgh, head to the bus stop for the city’s open-top sightseeing service — it’s located right by the station and is easy to spot! Jump aboard for a bird's-eye view of Scotland’s majestic capital and enjoy the freedom to hop on and off as you please. Frequent departures throughout the day mean you have total flexibility to plan your day.

Perhaps alight at Edinburgh’s historic Old Town and stroll along the city’s famous Royal Mile, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The charming Royal Mile runs right through the Old Town, with cobbled alleyways leading down the hillside to the city center. St Giles’ Cathedral and the National Museum of Scotland are close by.

Cross the courtyard at the top of the Royal Mile and head through the grand entrance of Edinburgh Castle. There has been a castle on this site since the 12th century, and over the years it has been used as royal residence, prison and army garrison. Gaze out over the city from your vantage point on the castle ramparts, before heading inside to discover the dazzling Honours of Scotland, the country’s crown jewels. Wander through the Royal apartments where Mary, Queen of Scots gave birth to the boy who was to become King of Scotland.

You might decide to visit the Scotch Whisky Heritage Center to learn about the nation’s favourite tipple, or head down the hill to gaze up at the famous Scott Monument, decorated with 64 characters from Walter Scott's novels.

Jump back aboard the hop-on hop-off bus service to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where state ceremonies and official entertaining take place when the Queen is in Scotland, or stroll along Princes Street checking out the tartan, whisky and shortbread that have made Scotland famous.

Enjoy complete freedom to explore Edinburgh at your own pace, then travel back to London by train where your tour will come to an end.

Depart from Fountain Square (123-151 Buckingham Palace Road) in London and make your way to Blenheim Palace. Arrive early in order to ensure a nearly private visit of the fairy-tale mansion. View the impressive State Rooms, walk through the well maintained gardens designed by Capability Brown, and grab a photo opportunity at the lake.

Head next through the Cotswolds, taking in the countryside, sleepy villages, and bustling market towns on a tour of one of England’s most pretty regions. Drive to the sleepy town of Burford, built on a steep high street leading to the River Windrush and its medieval bridge. A lunch pack will be included.

See the picturesque village of Bourton-on-the-Water, also known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’. Take time to explore the low bridges and wander along the Main Street.

Top off the day with a visit to the enchanting Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds. Estimated arrival time back to London is around 6.30pm.

Meet your private guide in central London in the morning, or enjoy a handy morning pickup at your hotel. Then, take a seat in your vehicle for the onward journey out of the city to Stratford-upon-Avon — nestled in the Warwickshire countryside.

On arrival, explore sites of interest associated with Shakespeare’s life such as his birthplace and burial ground, the thatched cottage of Anne Hathaway — his wife — and the walled gardens of Hall’s Croft, where his daughter lived.

Along the way, admire fine views over the half-timbered Tudor houses for which Stratford-upon-Avon is famous, and gain insight into life here in Shakespeare’s day.

When your time in Stratford-upon-Avon comes to an end, return in comfort to your London hotel to conclude your tour.

Leave London Victoria by coach, and travel west out of the city to the Salisbury Plains. Your day’s first destination is Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed stone circle that resonates with intrigue. Believed to be around 5,000 years old, the ancient monument was built from rare Welsh stone at a time when transporting such cumbersome material would have been near impossible.

The stones are roped off from the crowds for preservation, but a footpath around the outside of the circle lends itself to clear and close-up views. Read about Stonehenge on boards dotted around the footpath, and pose for photos in front of the megalithic stones. After walking around, head inside the state-of-the-art visitor center and browse an exhibition of some 250 prehistoric objects as well as other exciting information about the site.

Return to your coach at the prearranged time, and then relax on the 1-hour journey to Bath, an elegant West Country city that owes its name and fame to its historical hot springs, and was the setting of two Jane Austen novels. Learn about Bath’s heritage as a spa resort on a walking tour, and admire its Georgian architecture, resplendent in the local caramel-hued stone.

Oxford, Oxford University has had countless famous students, from Lewis Carroll and Oscar Wilde to Stephen Hawking, soak up the history as you walk through the courtyards and cobbled lanes. Take in the famous ‘city of dreaming spires’ and the Bodleian Library – one of Europe’s oldest libraries. Explore the unspoilt narrow alleys and ancient squares of this naturally beautiful town.

Starting in London you will head to the towns and villages of Midsomer situated across several English counties including Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire that have played a role in more than 250 suspicious deaths over the years in the first eight series alone. Continue the tour to Oxford - the City of Dreaming Spires - which revolves around its university, founded during the 12th century. Many reknown figures studied here such as Bill Clinton, JRR Tolkien - writer of the Lord of the Rings and famous actors such as Hugh Grant!
Visit Christ Church, one of the largest colleges in Oxford and home to the smallest cathedral in the UK - known as one of the sets for the Harry Potter films. Later on you can enjoy free time in the market. Then start your journey back to London.

Depart from near Victoria Railway Station in central London and leave the hustle and bustle behind you as you travel out into the English countryside by luxury coach. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride as London’s urban scenery gives way to the open greenery of the countryside.

First, head through the rolling Wiltshire plains to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Stonehenge, widely considered one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in the world. The enormous stones are believed to have been brought from the Preseli Mountains in Wales — a distance of over 280 miles (450 kilometers) — sometime between 3,000 BC and 2,000 BC, though to this day nobody is sure of the exact reasons for their arrangement and placement. Marvel at the huge stone circle, discover the many mysteries surrounding it and decide for yourself why Stonehenge was built.

Continue onward to the fine city of Bath, birthplace of authoress Jane Austin. Explore the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage-listed city — considered by many to be one of the prettiest cities in England — with your guide, and enjoy capturing its attractive Georgian architecture, crescents and terraces on camera. After your tour, enjoy a little free time to wander the cobbled streets and peruse the shops at your leisure.

Head north from Bath through the heart of the Cotswolds, widely thought of as one of the most beautiful stretches of countryside in England. Take in breathtaking views of open fields criss-crossed by dry stone walls as you travel, and bustling market towns with magnificent churches. Enjoy the spectacular scenery from the comfort of your coach.

Arrive in the charming town of Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare and home to the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company. Stratford is a charming market town set in the heart of rural England, with a delightful river winding its way slowly through the town. Enjoy Champagne and scones in Shakespeare's garden (the reception will take place indoors in winter), stretch your legs and explore Stratford to soak up the town’s wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. As of April 1, Shakespeare's birthplace will be replaced with a visit to Shakespeare's Schoolroom, with Champagne and scones included.

At the end of your time in Stratford-Upon-Avon, hop back in your coach for the return journey to London, where your tour will conclude.

Head west by comfortable mini-coach along the chalk countryside of Wiltshire and visit one of the oldest sites in England, Old Sarum, where the Iron Age hill fort bears witness to layers of British history. Learn from your expert guide how every culture from the Celts to the Normans has left their mark on this impressive and primeval site. Take a guided tour of the 11th-century castle and take in the spectacular views down the Avon Valley before continuing on your tour.

After a short drive, arrive at the magnificent 13th-century Salisbury Cathedral, featuring one of the tallest spires in the country. Discover one of the oldest working clocks in Europe and the country’s best preserved original copy of the major constitution from 1215, the Magna Carta. Pass beautiful villages of thatch and flint while taking the back roads through Woodford Valley. Arrive at the prehistoric monument of Stonehenge. Here, your guide will share mysteries, theories and facts of this enigmatic site, and will enlighten you about the different building periods, the stones’ alignments and the people who worshipped here. Take time to absorb the powerful monument before continuing to other Stone Age sites in the area.

Go inside the 5,500-year-old Neolithic burial chamber of West Kennet Long Barrow and see the remains of the ancient people who once lived there. You will be stunned by the area’s landscape, including Silbury Hill – one of Europe's tallest prehistoric structures. Finally, visit the stone circles at Avebury. Sixteen times larger than Stonehenge, this historic location features more than 100 standing stones and a circumference so large that the village of Avebury fits inside! Explore the ancient stones and quaint village, with its thatched cottages and pub, before returning to London.

Meet your guide at 11am in Leicester Square, central London, then set off through the city streets on foot to begin your tour.

Visit filming locations used in the Harry Potter movies including ancient bridges over the Thames River and Kings Cross Station. Snap yourself on camera at Platform 9¾ — now a permanent fixture at the busy train station.

Afterward, take a seat in your air-conditioned coach for the drive to Leavesden and enjoy a behind-the-scenes look into the world of cinema on a Warner Bros Studio tour. At approximately 4pm, you will be given entry to Warner Bros Studio Tour for free time to explore the behind the scenes tour at your own pace. You'll have 3 hours to explore (some dates will have a 5pm entry time).

When your studio sightseeing trip comes to an end, meet your coach outside the studios for the return journey to central London.

The morning begins with a private tour of Hampton Court before it opens to the public. The most famous prehistoric monument in the world. Stonehenge stands alone in the vast empty tract of Salisbury plain. Its origins date back nearly 5,000 years. Who were the people who carried and carved these 40 ton rocks? Come and unlock the secrets for yourself. Then you will have time to enjoy a picnic style lunch at the new Visitors Centre restaurant.

Finally head for the Georgian city of Bath. Bath is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture. Following our scenic drive into the heart of the city and a short walking tour with your guide, there is free time to explore. Perhaps visit the Roman Baths that were built nearly 2,000 years ago, visit Bath Abbey or simply treat yourself to an afternoon tea in one of the many quaint tea houses.

Start your day by making your own way to Victoria Coach Station to meet your guide. Settle into your seat aboard a luxury coach, then relax on the journey to Oxfordshire, a picturesque county roughly 1.5 hours away.

Make your first stop at the UNESCO-listed Blenheim Palace (entry not included), the birthplace of Sir William Churchill. With your headset switched on to ensure you can hear your guide’s commentary clearly, set off on a tour of the lavish State Rooms. After, head to Bampton, a quintessentially English village that featured as Downton village in the hit TV show Downton Abbey. See the church where Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley married, and the house that was once the Crawley family home. Pass Downton hospital and take in other sites such as the fictional Grantham Arms pub.

When the time comes, return to your coach for the journey back to London, where your day trip concludes at Victoria Station.

Start off your day at the St Pancras International station in London, where you will be met by a representative and board the Eurostar train. Arrive at the Gare du Nord station in Paris and meet your expert guide for a sightseeing coach tour of this beautiful city.

See the lively Champs-Elysées, lined with luxury boutiques and restaurants, and admire the iconic Arc de Triomphe. Pass the famed Paris Opera house and continue to Trocadero, an area where just across the Seine River lies the majestic Eiffel Tower.

On arrival, head inside and set off on an audio-guided tour of the amazing palace. Visit the Great Royal Apartments, the Hall of Mirrors and the Queen’s Apartments. After your tour, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the magnificent Gardens of Versailles. Admire ornate fountains, grand statues and lush greenery as you navigate the garden’s winding paths.

Your guide will then take you back to the Gare du Nord station in Paris for your return train journey to London in the evening.

This tour takes you to the capital city of Wales, Cardiff for a full day of exploring. This trip includes a sightseeing tour with a local guide, entrance to the impressive Caerphilly Castle, luxury return coach travel, and an accompanying tour manager. This a perfect way of visiting another country without the need of a visa or passport.

After your central London pickup, you will depart for Cardiff, Wales. You will be given a 45-minute break at the services on the way. You will be joined by a Welsh guide, then arrive in Cardiff, you will be taken on a city tour. The guide will point out a few of the major attractions and sites such as Cardiff Castle and the National Museum. At around 1:30pm, once the tour has finished, enjoy an hour of free time to take a look around Cardiff and perhaps grab some lunch. There are many restaurants and cafés along the Cardiff Bay with wonderful views.

At approximately 2:30pm, depart from the city center to Caerphilly Castle (Cardiff Castle on some dates). The castle was constructed by Gilbert de Clare in the 13th century and occupies around 30 acres of land making it the second largest castle in Britain. Upon your arrival, you will be taken on a walking tour and then enjoy free time to explore the medieval construction yourself.

Around 4pm, you will start our return journey back to London. You will have a 30-minute break at the services on route back to the drop off point. Arrive back in central London at about 8:30pm.

Meet at 9am for your departure at 9:15am from the Greenline Coach Terminal, on an air-conditioned coach, you will head west out of London through the county of Wiltshire to our first stop of the day, the ancient Roman Spa town of Bath.

This city has been inhabited for around 2000 years. There’s Roman baths, Georgian architecture, and a gorgeous abbey to see. It’s a fascinating town to explore, so you'll have plenty of time to wander around at your own pace.

After lunch, you'll travel deeper into rural Wiltshire to Lacock village, famous for its picturesque streets, historic buildings, and role as a television and film location. With your local, professional guide, you'll learn about, Abbey, in the heart of the village has its own woodland grounds, and is a quirky country house of fascinating architectural styles.

Your final stop of the day is at the pretty village of Avebury. Here you can wander amidst the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world. You return to London in the early evening, approximately 7:30pm, then dropped off at your original departure point..

Then it's a short journey to medieval Warwick Castle, whose magnificent towers and ramparts remain mostly intact. Travel back through 1,000 years of history as you cross the footbridge to a bygone world of banquets, battles and ceremony. Climb the winding staircase to the Princess Tower, or, if you're feeling brave, visit the spine-chilling dungeons where prisoners were tortured. You might wish to take a stroll through the castle's lovingly tended gardens, where archery, falconry and jousting take place in the summer months.

Your day trip then concludes back at Victoria Coach Station in the evening.

Continue to the village of Lacock. Untouched by modern hands, this charming parish has been featured in many films including Pride and Prejudice and the Harry Potter movies. Then, Break for lunch (own expense).

Make your final stop at the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Stonehenge. Believed to be around 5,000 years old, the prehistoric stone circle is shrouded in mystery. Walk around the stones and the visitor center with your guide, listening to the many theories about how and why it was created.

After your visit, return to your coach for the journey back to London. Your day trip concludes back at the original start point.

Start your guided tour of Greenwich at the Sir Walter Raleigh statue, which is located just outside the northern entrance to the Greenwich Tourism Information Centre. 

Visit the Cutty Sark, a beautiful ship that was fully restored and opened to the public in 2012, following a £50 Million restoration. Continue your tour with a visit to St. Alfege's Church, designed by the renowned architect Nicholas Hawksmoor. There has been a church located on this site for a thousand years.

Catch views of the River Thames and enjoy a traditional lunch in a riverside pub. Pub favorites such as fish and chips are on the menu, along with complimentary tea, coffee, or soda. After lunch, explore the Greenwich Observatory and the prime meridian. Visit the prime meridian and head into the historic Flamsteed House, designed by the great Sir Christopher Wren.

Continue your tour to the National Maritime Museum,the largest of its type in the world. Visit the Old Royal Naval College and its magnificent Painted Hall. Conclude your tour at the Greenwich Market, filled with local artisans and international food stands.

At 9:00 a.m., our small-group tour takes you away from the big city of London and into the medieval town of Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace. Take your journey on a luxury air conditioned mini-bus, USB and Wi-Fi ready.  Next travel through the 12th to the 21st century as your walk through this market town. You’ll be able to wander quaint side streets, independent shops and the open parklands along the River Avon. Tour returns to London at approximately 8:00pm

After you are greeted upon arrival at the Dover cruise port by your friendly guide, relax aboard an executive coach. You’ll drive above the famous White Cliffs and head into the county of Kent, an agricultural area that feeds London from its orchards, hop fields and vineyards. Enjoy the lovely views as you make the short, 45-minute journey to Canterbury, the seat of English Christianity since 597 AD.

See Canterbury with your guide, listening to stories about the history of the town and cathedral. You’ll hear medieval tales from Canterbury writers, Geoffrey Chaucer and Christopher Marlowe, as well as stories of the Reformation and the Blitz. After two hours in Canterbury, travel over the Weald of Kent – a high ridge – and head down to Leeds Castle, famously referred to as 'the loveliest castle in the world.’ Founded in the 9th century, it is best known as a palace for numerous queens of England. Along the way, hear fascinating commentary from your guide about the monarchs and the fate that befell them!

Spend three hours at the beautiful castle, set on two islands on a lake, and explore its remarkable interior as well as the grounds and gardens with your guide. Admire rooms such as the library and banquet hall, and be amazed by the one-of-a-kind museum of ornate dog collars! Outdoors, walk through the complicated maze and enjoy the grotto and water features. If you wish, dine on a leisurely lunch in one of the cafés or restaurants overlooking the grounds (own expense).

Then, board the coach and travel about an hour to London, heading into the city via Greenwich and the River Thames. Your guide will point out the Royal Naval College, the Queen's House, the historic Cutty Sark – a clipper ship – and the Royal Observatory as you cross the dateline and move officially from east to west.

Start your day trip from central London and travel to Burford in the Cotswolds, where the town’s magnificent high street features every variety of Cotswold stone. You'll have time to visit the town's small tea houses before continuing to Bibury for a short walking tour around the village.

Lunch beckons and what better way to satisfy your hunger than with a fabulous 2-course lunch in the heart of the Cotswolds? The hotel restaurant boasts a spectacular oak-beamed ceiling and a huge stone fireplace bearing supposed witches' marks, and serves a fabulous range of traditional food, including classic bread and butter pudding for dessert.

Continue to Bourton-on-the-Water in the afternoon, and stretch your legs during a brief 1-hour break. Then, journey onward to your final stop at lovely Stow-on-the-Wold. Use your free time in the village to explore at leisure and scout out the charming cafes, souvenir shops and photo-worthy limestone houses that line the streets.

Leave Stow-on-the-Wold in the late afternoon, and travel back to Victoria in central London where your tour finishes.

After a morning pickup from central London, begin the journey to Hampton Court palace. Situated on the River Thames, some twenty miles from London, Hampton Court is one of only two surviving palaces out of the many owned by King Henry VIII and holds a great amount of history. Upon arrival, you will be given entrance then left to explore the ground and the six acres of magnificent buildings and surrounding gardens.

After lunch (not included), depart from Hampton and head for Windsor where you will be given a guided sightseeing tour. The rest of the afternoon is then left for you to discover the royal town. You may enjoy visiting Windsor Castle (entrance not included), the longest occupied palace in Europe and is the Official Residence of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. Or, perhaps you could go and see St George's Chapel, the place of worship at Windsor Castle.

Your tour manager will confirm the time you will need to meet back at the coach and you will then leave Windsor and head back to central London for an arrival time of approximately 6:00pm.

Start the day from Victoria Coach Station in Windsor with a visit to the largest occupied castle in the world, Windsor Castle. Its colorful history spans over 900 years, from William the Conqueror in the 11th Century to its current status as the Official Residence of Her Majesty the Queen. This is a wonderful opportunity to marvel at the splendor of the 15th century St.George’s Chapel and explore the superb and unrivaled State Apartments, which include the lavishly furnished White, Green and Crimson Drawing Rooms.

From Windsor Castle, head to one of the most famous of all prehistoric monuments, the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge. Built in 3 stages from approximately 3000BC, Stonehenge stands alone in the vast empty tract of Salisbury Plain. Shrouded in mystery, the huge Sarsen Stones tend to throw up more questions than answers, such as who were the builders? What was this vast collection of Stones intended for? Was it an observatory of the moon, a temple to the sun, or perhaps an elaborate cemetery?

There will be plenty of time at your disposal to visit the brand new Visitor Center, which opened in December 2013, with its mixture of permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Then proceed to the second UNESCO World Heritage Site on the tour, the city of Bath, where the Romans developed thermal pools from the area’s hot sulfurous waters nearly 2000 years ago. Your tour includes entry to the Roman Baths Complex. At the heart of the site is the King’s Bath, site of the ancient Sacred Spring. See the Great Temple to the Goddess Sulis Minerva, the Roman Bath House and the museum, while the view from the Terrace offers unmissable photo opportunities.

Perhaps you’ll consider a break for lunch in the Pump Room, built in 1795 as the focal point of Georgian society, the venue remains at the social heart of the city and serves fantastic food. Apart from one of the best preserved Roman remains in the world, the city of Bath is a must-see destination in its own right, with highlights that include Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge and the impressive Royal Crescent, one of Britain’s most striking streets. Lined with boutiques, antique shops and tea rooms, Bath is a model of preserved beauty and a great location to just stroll around in soaking up the atmosphere.

At tour's end you will be transferred back to Windsor's Vauxhall Bridge Road, near Victoria Station.

Bath, the gorgeous city of Bath was the first city in England to be designated an UNESCO World Heritage site. Standing on the banks of the picturesque River Avon, explore all the city has to offer, including the gorgeous 15th century Bath Abbey, the spectacular Georgian architecture and, modelled on Florence's Ponte Vecchio, the romantic Pulteney Bridge.

Roman Baths and Pump Rooms, a visit to the Roman Baths is an absolute must when visiting the city that is named after them. This beautiful and well-preserved bathing complex still flows with water from Britain’s only hot spring. Watch the twinkling torch–lighting ceremony as dusk falls (not applicable in summer) and have a taste of Bath’s healing waters in the Pump Room, a stunning neo–classical salon.

Mysterious Stonehenge, we may never get to discover the true meaning of the ancient, awe-inspiring structure of Stonehenge. Perhaps the stone circle was a temple for sun worship, a place for healing, a massive calendar or a sacred burial site? Marvel at the beauty and speculate about how our ancestors managed to transport these mighty stones and erect this amazing structure? Shrouded by mystery and magic, Stonehenge ill never fail to impress.

On this day tour, you will explore some of the 'Downton Abbey' film locations featured in both London and the Oxfordshire countryside. London’s highlights include off-the-beaten track locations full of historical buildings and cobbled streets, as well as grand houses, clubs and restaurants with aristocratic and regal links. Leaving the hubbub of town, your afternoon will be spent visiting Downton Village, Yew Tree Farm and enjoying the picturesque Cotswold scenery and villages.

Travelling by mini coach, the tour will provide you with an insight into the making of the show and uncover stories behind some of the places that you will visit on the tour.

Starting in central London, your tour will take you to the Inns of Court which have been popular sites for filming. You will see the clinic Lady Edith visits when she discovers she is pregnant and the Russian Refugee church where Prince Kuragin is staying. You can follow in the footsteps of Mr Bricker and Cora when they go for a walk and spot the café where Tom spies Lady Rose out with the Jazz singer, Jack Ross. Other London sites visited include exteriors of Lord Gillingham’s townhouse, the Liverpool Grand Hotel and Grantham House. After you have explored London Town, it is time to head out to the countryside. The first location that you visit is about 70 miles out of town and (depending on traffic) the journey lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours.

Upon your arrival at the historic 10th century farmstead which featured as Yew Tree Farm in Series 4 and 5, you can enjoy a complimentary Cotswolds platter. Following lunch, you will have a guided tour of this location which featured as the home of Mr Drewe, the struggling tenant who agrees to secretly help raise Lady Edith’s daughter.

From here, you will set off to the heart of rural Oxfordshire where several villages have been used in the world of Downton Abbey. You will see ‘Kirbymoorside’, where Anna’s bus splashes through the stream outside the pub where Bates worked when he left Downton Abbey. There will be a short stop at the church that Matthew and Edith visit in series 1 (episode 3) and you’ll pass the pub where Branson and Lady Sybil stay when they elope in series 2.

Most notably, you will visit Downton Village where you will get a guided tour of the village and see familiar sites such as exteriors of Downton hospital, the village pub, the former home of Matthew Crawley and the local church, amongst others. Following this guided, tour you will be able to explore the village for yourself. The tour ends in London.

You will meet your driver at your central London accommodation. From there, you will be taken in a private vehicle to Stonehenge. You will be assisted with picking up your pre-booked tickets at Stonehenge. You can either take the bus or walk for one mile to the stones. There, you will have a look at the stones circle. Once you have explored the mystery surrounding the stones and the English countryside, you will head back to the visitor centre where you can see the exhibition, do some shopping, or have some tea at the cafe. Your driver will meet you at pre-arranged location to take you back to your accommodation.

Board a coach at the Victoria Coach Station and relax on the 1-hour drive south to Leeds Castle. Built in 1119 as a Norman stronghold, Leeds Castle is beautifully situated on an island in a lake.

Learn how the property has changed hands and transformed over the years, from a 13th-century royal palace for King Edward I to the residence of Henry VII’s first wife, Catherine of Aragon, in the 16th century all the way up to the last private owner, American heiress Lady Baillie, who is credited for the castle’s remarkable preservation and redecoration.
Following a guide, explore the galleries, bedrooms, chapel, banquet hall and courtyards. Then take time to explore the surrounding gardens, walk around the lake and find your way through the famous maze.

Re-board the coach for a coastal drive to the White Cliffs of Dover, a chalky cliff face that lines part of the English Channel. As you’ll learn, these cliffs are symbolic throughout Britain, as they were the entry point for past war invasions and formed the first sight of England for travelers coming from Continental Europe.

Drive up and over the cliffs to Canterbury. Here you’ll visit Canterbury Cathedral, one of the most important Christian churches in the world and today a UNESCO World Heritage site. Immortalized by Geoffrey Chaucer in The Canterbury Tales, this striking Gothic church is nearly 1,700 years old!

After a guided tour of the cathedral, enjoy free time to explore the old town and have lunch at one of the many cafés or restaurants (own expense).

Continue your journey to the London borough of Greenwich, notable for its maritime history and as the birthplace of many English rulers from the House of Tudor. Take a walking tour to learn about Greenwich’s history, architecture, palaces and parks.

Arriving back in central London in the evening, hop on a boat and savor the views on a relaxing sunset cruise along the Thames River. Have your camera ready as you pass top London attractions including Tower Bridge and the Tower of London against the sparkling city skyline.

Two popular iconic destinations in one day, perfect for those short on time but wanting to fit in the fantastic cities of Oxford and Cambridge during their stay in London.

On this day tour we’ll visit Oxford, known as the ‘City of dreaming spires’. During the visit we’ll have a short walking tour of the city and then you’ll have free time to explore.

We then travel to Cambridge where you can climb St Mary’s Church Tower for fantastic panoramic views of the City (Entrance is included) you’ll then have free time to explore the city

After our London pick ups we depart for Oxford. We arrive at approximate 10am in Oxford. Upon arrival your tour manager will conduct a walking tour of the city, highlighting some of the key spots to visit. You’ll then have a couple of hours free time to explore and visit the many places Oxford has to offer.

At around 1pm, we depart Oxford for our next stop of the day, Cambridge.

On arrival in Cambridge at approximately 3pm, the tour manager will walk the group to Tower of St Mary the Great, pointing out some highlights for free time on the way, tour manager will arrange group entry to tower. Then you’ll have free time until its time to return to the coach for our journey back to London.

We then depart Cambridge for return journey to London Bridge at 6pm. We are expected to arrive back at 8pm. 

Departing London head directly to Stonehenge. The most famous prehistoric monument in the world. Stonehenge stands alone in the vast empty tract of Salisbury plain. Its origins date back nearly 5,000 years. Who were the people who carried and carved these 40 ton rocks? Come and unlock the secrets for yourself. Then time to enjoy a picnic style lunch at the new Visitors Centre restaurant and enjoy an in depth talk from a local guide where you can ask your own questions on the mysteries of Stonehenge.

Heading over Salisbury Plains descend into the Cathedral city of Salisbury. Famous for its Gothic Cathedral and home to England tallest spire standing at 404 feet (123 metres), entrance is included. Seize the opportunity to explore this 'Medieval Masterpiece' and the chance to view one of the 4 remaining Magna Carta books inside the Chapter House - Salisbury's copy of the world-famous legal charter is widely acknowledged as the best preserved of the four remaining documents. Don't forget to view probably the oldest working clock in existence, made of hand-wrought iron in or before 1386!

Next head to Bath, a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture. Following a scenic drive into the heart of the city and a short walking tour with your guide, there is free time to explore. Perhaps visit the Roman Baths that were built nearly 2,000 years ago, visit Bath Abbey or simply treat yourself to an afternoon tea in one of the many quaint tea houses.  Departing Bath arrive back into London for 7:30pm.

Warwick Castle
This morning's first stop is medieval Warwick Castle. Over 1,000 years old, marvel at its amazing towers. For those that dare, there's a visit to the dungeons where prisoners were tortured. Alternatively, stroll the castle's tended gardens. At Warwick choose to either:

1. Enjoy a free guided walking tour of Warwick's town center where you can view well preserved famous old buildings.
2. Tour the inside of Warwick Castle and learn more about the banquets, battles and ceremonies that took place here (cost Adult £25.80, Child £19.80, Seniors/Students £21.60).

1. Explore Stratford-upon-Avon, a market town located on the edge of the Forest of Arden and home to the world's greatest playwright.

1. Explore the cobbled streets of Oxford and see Bodleian Library and the picture-perfect college courtyards, for which Oxford is famous.

On this full-day tour from London, uncover with your guide the myths and legends of King Arthur and see some of England’s most famous and curious sites. From London, head west through the beautiful countryside to what was once the ancient Kingdom of Wessex.

Stop first in Winchester and head inside the Great Hall, built between 1222 and 1235. Inside, see what many people believed to be King Arthur's original Round Table. In medieval times, the writer and author of Le Morte D'Arthur, Sir Thomas Mallory, swore by its authenticity and identified Winchester as being the site of King Arthur's Camelot.
 
Afterward, visit one of the most mysterious sites on Earth, that prehistoric and world-famous stone monument known as Stonehenge. The landscape is peppered with burial chambers and stone circles, each one thousands of years old and shrouded in mysteries, but Stonehenge rises above them all. Located on Salisbury Plain and keeping its 5,000 years of history quite secret, Stonehenge has been described as everything from an astronomical clock to a place of worship or burial. Your guide will explain what is known today and reveal the theories that have been debated for centuries. Ponder these theories as you walk around the stones and admire the scenic views.

Your tour continues to the small town of Glastonbury, supposed home of the mysterious isle of Avalon, the place where King Arthur’s sword was forged, according to legend. It was here, after the Battle of Camlann, that a mortally wounded King Arthur died. Stop at the famous Glastonbury Tor (a hill) and view the ruins of St Michael's church. Afterward, descend to the Chalice Well Gardens to learn of an older legend, that of the chalice that Jesus Christ used during the Last Supper. Some say the Holy Grail is buried here in Glastonbury.

Continue into town to visit Glastonbury Abbey, the site of Arthur’s and Queen Guinevere's graves, before heading to lunch in one of the local restaurants (own expense). Spend the end of your tour being guided to see the mysterious Silbury Hill, Europe's tallest prehistoric manmade mound – a fitting end to a full day of discovery.

After you are picked up in central London, depart for Glastonbury, passing through England's smallest Cathedral city of Wells. You will arrive in Glastonbury around 12pm. You will have access to Glastonbury Abbey, and afterwards take advantage of some free time to explore Glastonbury and discover all about the legend of King Arthur and the famous Glastonbury Thorn. View the remains of St Michael’s church on top of the Tor, destroyed by a medieval earthquake.

At around 2:30pm, depart for Cheddar Gorge, named as the second greatest natural wonder in Britain. Upon arrival, you will be given free time to explore the village, gorge, and caves. Perhaps you could visit the famous Gough's Cave, which contains the Cheddar Yeo, the largest underground river system in Britain (admission not included).

At approximately 4:30pm, leave Cheddar for your return journey to London. As you travel on through the famous Cheddar Gorge, keep a lookout for the wild goats clinging to the cliffs. At approximately 7.45pm we will arrive back in London.

Hop aboard your coach in central London in the morning, then relax on route out of the city to the UNESCO–listed site of Stonehenge. Located in the pretty English county of Wiltshire, Stonehenge is considered by many to be among the world’s most impressive prehistoric sites.

On arrival, enjoy a 1.5-hour tour with your audio guide and admire this ancient monument up-close. Gain insight into the site’s fascinating history and perhaps come to your own conclusions on the origins of the ancient rock formations.

The pub contains a room dedicated to The Clink Prison, a prison located nearby along the aptly named Clink Street. Pass it en route to your next stop, the Old Thameside Inn. You will also see the remains of the Palace of Winchester, one of the largest and most important buildings in medieval London.

History oozes from the great beams and ancient brickwork of the Old Thameside Inn, formerly an old spice warehouse. Set off from Marble Arch in central London by luxury coach, and head southeast into Kent, the county affectionately known as the Garden of England for its quintessential English countryside.

After our central London pickups, we depart for the medieval village of Avebury. Avebury was built and amended over many centuries from about 2850 BC to 2200 BC and is ringed by the largest stone circle in the world. Upon arrival, your tour manager will take you on a walking tour before leaving you for free time to explore this picturesque and historic area.

At approximately 1:30pm, the group will walk up the hillside to West Kennet Long Barrow, a 5000 year old Neolithic burial tomb. You will be taken to the burial side where your guide will take you into the burial chambers and bring its fascinating history alive.

Drive through some of England’s most beautiful countryside as you make you way to Bath, passing the traditional villages and lush countryside of Wiltshire and Somerset and Avon. Upon arrival in Bath, go to the Roman Baths, once the most famous hot springs in Europe. Discover the handsome Georgian architecture of the city on a short driving tour, including the famous Royal Crescent. Then, your guide will recommend the best places to see, shop and eat for your free time at leisure.

After a pick up 7:30am pick up from a central location, travel just a short time from London city life and watch as the scenery changes to stunning countryside, streams and honey-colored cottages. The tour will drive through beautiful villages until arriving at Burford, the elegant market town known as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds'. Here you will take a guided walk to the 900 year old church of St John the Baptist and see unique woolsack tombs and historic memorials.

After some free time you will depart and drive over to Bibury "the prettiest village in England" according to the art critic and writer William Morris. You can walk along the picturesque Arlington Row, one of the most photographed group of cottages in the country dating back to the 17th century, alongside clear trout filled streams and the village green. A single track country lane will take you up further up the Coln Valley and onto the 2,000 year old Roman Fosse Way. Along this delightful secluded valley the tour will make a stop at the ancient stone church at Coln St Dennis, then onwards to Bourton-on-the-Water, the 'Little Venice of the Cotswolds' with its stream running through the center of the village and a series of stone bridges. Picture postcard houses nestle either side of the River Windrush as the tour follows the narrow lanes up to Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds. This attractive market town was the center of the wool trade in the area when up to 20,000 sheep would be bought and sold at the annual fairs! It is the highest of the Cotswolds towns standing on the 800 feet high Stow Hill. there will be time to explore the wide town market square and the views from the hilltop before our traditional lunch at one of the oldest inns in the country.

You will then continue the guided tour down to Woodstock and the magnificent Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. This stately home was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and built between 1704 and 1722 for Sir John Churchill as a reward for defeating the French in the Wars of Spanish Succession. Beautiful landscaped grounds designed by Lancelot Capability Brown surround the Palace. Explore the opulent interior, see the room where Sir Winston Churchill was born and marvel at the great dinning hall and library. A wonderful way to end the day before our return to London.

On the return to London your driver will drop you at Victoria Train Station in the city center. This is one of the largest transport stations in London, with excellent connections to all parts of London and beyond.

After the central London pickups we will make our way to Windsor. Here you will be given free time to explore the historic town. You may wish to visit the Official Residence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Windsor Castle (entrance not included) and the St George's Chapel which is the place of worship at the Castle. Perhaps you may want to shop on Eton High Street with its large array of independent retailers or pick up some delicious fudge at The Fudge Kitchen which is full of quirky fudge charm. You can even watch it being made!

We will then head to the most prehistoric site in the UK, Stonehenge! (entrance included). After a full day, we depart Salisbury and head back in to central London where we will arrive at approximately 6:30pm.

Upon arrival at St Pancras International station at 06:00am, meet with Premium Tours representative in front of Le Pain Quotidien Coffee Shop (next to Eurostar gate 5) to pick up your travel pack. On arrival, you'll start with lunch by the scenic Southend Cliff Gardens, manicured landscaped gardens with stunning views across the broad sweep of the Thames Estuary and the English Channel. Next, you might wish to explore some highlights of Southend's history, such as medieval Prittlewell Priory or Southchurch Hall, or the Central Museum, which tells the story of the natural and human history of the county of Essex.

No trip to Southend would be complete without a stroll on the sandy beach. Don't miss Southend Pier: at 1.34 miles (2.1 kilometers), it's  the longest pleasure pier in the world. Savor classic British seaside snacks like rock candy, fish and chips, and candyfloss as you relax on the sand, watch the children building sandcastles, or visit a traditional seaside arcade.

Should you wish, you might also want to check out some of Southend's more contemporary attractions. Adventure Island offers thrilling rides such as Vortex and Dragon's Claw, as well as classic seaside fare like a big wheel and crazy golf. The Sea Life Adventure aquarium includes exhibits of rays, turtles, and crocodiles.

You'll leave between 4:30pm and 5pm, arriving back at your hotel around 6:30pm.

Begin your Abbey adventure in London and take a luxury coach to the beautiful and quaint Oxfordshire Cotswolds, to see key filming sites of Downton Abbey.

After 90-minutes at Stonehenge, depart for the town of Windsor, where more than 900 years of history await. Grab some lunch (own expense) in one of the lovely restaurants in the town center, and then enjoy a guided walk of the old town and Eton College. You’ll also have some time to visit the castle if you wish (castle entrance fee at own expense). Windsor Castle is the largest continuously occupied castle in the world, and your guide will explain to you its full history.

Your coach will depart Windsor at 4pm for your journey to London, which is less than an hour’s drive. When you arrive in London, additional vehicles or taxis may be used (included in the price) to ensure that hotel drop-offs for all passengers are completed as quickly as possible.

Make your own way to St Pancras International station and meet your professional guide. Board the Eurostar and relax as it whisks you to Paris in just over 2 hours. If you wish, upgrade to 1st Class and enjoy breakfast served on board and dinner on your return journey.


Once you arrive in Paris, join your guide on an air-conditioned coach for a panoramic sightseeing tour. See top Paris attractions such as the Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe and Opera House as you hear fascinating facts about the city.


Next, arrive at the iconic Eiffel Tower for your Champagne lunch. In the late afternoon, return to Gard du Nord station and catch the Eurostar back to St Pancras. Your tour ends when you arrive at around 8:30pm.

Your tour begins with a visit to one of London’s most iconic attractions, The Tower of London. Be one of the first groups admitted on the day before proceeding to the most historic part, The White Tower. Here you will be welcomed by a White Tower warden for a talk on its unique history. Explore all four floors, including the Royal Armouries Collection, and see the Crown Jewels, which are part of the Royal Collection and still used regularly by the Queen.

Then head into the City of London, where you'll see St. Paul's Cathedral and the Bank of England, among many of London’s other famous landmarks, hearing more about the history of this fascinating city. Cross over iconic Tower Bridge before you visit Borough Market.

Borough Market is London’s most renowned food and drink market and dates back to 1014. Both a source of British and international produce, it consists of more than 100 stalls and strands. Producers from all over the country bring a range of fresh produce to the market including fish, meats, vegetables, ciders, breads, cheeses, coffees, and cakes. You'll have time to explore the many stalls and enjoy some of the local delicacies before heading to Westminster Abbey.

Steeped in more than a thousand years of history, the Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066 and is the final resting place of 17 monarchs. The present church, begun by Henry III in 1245, is one of the most important gothic buildings in the country. Take a comprehensive tour as your guide brings the story of the Abbey to life. Top off the day with a sumptuous afternoon tea at the Cellarium Café located inside the Abbey complete with sandwiches, scones, cakes and your choice of tea. Your tour will end here so you can enjoy your afternoon tea at your own pace.

After your central London pickup, we depart London and head for Burford. Upon arrival in the small picturesque town, you will give given free time to explore. The main street in the town slopes gently down to the river Windrush and is lined with lots of old houses and ancient cottages all of which appear to have not changed since Tudor times .There are also wonderful little side streets to explore, old pubs, tea and antique shops aplenty. You may wish to visit the town’s museum, The Tolsey, an early Tudor building which holds two rooms of exhibits which tell of the trades that once flourished, from brewing, to leatherworking (please note: The museum is open from April to October, afternoons Tuesday to Sunday).

We then will go on to visit Bourton on the Water where you will again have free time to enjoy this beautiful area and grab some lunch (own expense). Bourton-on-the-Water is a village that is know for it's quaint High Street, and the River Windrush that is crossed by several stone bridges. Bourton has been referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds". You may wish to visit The Dragonfly Maze during our stop, and walk round the half a mile of pathways looking out for the 14 numbered clues. Or perhaps you could visit Birdland, and see its nine acres of woodland, river and gardens. The natural setting is inhabited by over 500 birds. Flamingos, pelicans, penguins, storks, and waterfowl can be seen here as well as over 50 aviaries of parrots, falcons, pheasants and many more!

We will then depart Bourton on the Water and begin our journey back to central London. Your tour manager will be sure to point out the villages and views of the countryside during our return drive as well as the exciting history of the area. The will also make stop for photos throughout. Our approximate arrival time back into London is 18:30pm.

Take a day trip by train to the historic port city of Liverpool, a vibrant place of culture and heritage and a must-see destination for music lovers and football fans from all over the world.

Depart from Euston Station at 8am, and head to the UNESCO World Heritage Waterfront on your arrival at Lime Street Station. Make sure to check out the Royal Liver Building, the tallest building in Europe at the time of its construction in 1911, before arriving at Albert Dock.

Brimming with museums, galleries, and a wide variety of bars and restaurants, the Dock was transformed in the 1980s but still retains the largest collection of Grade l listed buildings in the country.

The award-winning Beatles Story is the largest visitor attraction dedicated to the lives and times of the ‘Fab Four’. Hear the story of how the four young ‘Scousers’ rocketed to fame and fortune from their humble roots growing up on Merseyside. The free ‘Living History’ audio guide is narrated by John Lennon’s sister, Julia, and is available in 10 different languages.

At 2pm, step aboard the ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ for a fascinating journey through the streets of the city that inspired some of the band’s most memorable songs, including ‘Penny Lane’ and ‘Strawberry Field’.

The 2-hour tour finishes at the legendary Cavern Club, where the resident musicians will no doubt be playing some familiar tunes. Your train back to London doesn’t leave until 6:47pm, so there’s still plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere before returning to your original departure point.

Begin with a pickup from Victoria Coach Station. Hop aboard a luxury coach and plug into your state-of-the-art Vox headphones so you can hear your guide’s commentary as you journey into the beautiful English countryside.

After a 2-hour drive, arrive in the charming Wiltshire town of Salisbury, known for its 750-year-old cathedral that boasts the tallest spire in England. Set off to explore independently, or upgrade for a guided tour of the cathedral with your guide.

Enter Salisbury Cathedral and soak up the history and grandeur of one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. Then, visit the church’s chapter house, which displays one of the four surviving original copies of the Magna Carta. Spend two hours perusing the cathedral, exploring the captivating town and having lunch (own expense) at your leisure before boarding the coach and drive to your next destination.

Traveling even further back in time through the rolling Wessex landscape, you will arrive in Stonehenge. Who dragged these massive stones to this lonely plain near Salisbury 5,000 years ago, and why? These questions have haunted the minds of centuries of scholars. You will have the opportunity to walk around these magical stones and contemplate the landscape in which they were erected so many centuries ago.

Next, return to your coach and travel 30 minutes to the UNESCO-listed city of Bath, famous for its elegant Georgian architecture. Take in sights such as Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge and the Circus and Assembly Rooms.

Should you wish, upgrade to enjoy a visit to the Roman Baths, the best-preserved public baths from the Ancient Roman world, beautifully restored during the Victorian era. Hear from your guide about the source of these famous hot springs and discover the baths’ uses by the Celts and Romans. Alternatively, enjoy free time to explore the city center at your own pace.

When the time comes, settle into your seat aboard your luxury coach and relax during the 2.5-hour journey back to London.

After pickup from central London by coach, your day tour begins at Windsor Castle. Queen Elizabeth II is said to spend many of her weekends here, a royal home for more than 900 years.

With your entry, you can walk through the State Apartments to see lavish decor and valuable artworks, such as paintings by Rembrandt and Leonardo da Vinci. Step inside St George’s Chapel, located on the sprawling grounds, where notorious King Henry VIII and his favorite wife, Jane Seymour, are buried, as are Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

Next, head to the ancient site of Stonehenge, a towering enigma that has stood on Salisbury Plain for more than 5,000 years. See the UNESCO World Heritage site from every angle as you walk around it.

Then continue to the city of Bath, another World Heritage site, known for its Georgian architecture and Roman Baths. You can explore the cobbled streets and check out sights such as the 15th-century Bath Abbey and the Pulteney Bridge. Then head to the Roman Baths, a bathing complex in the center of the city that was used by Romans who wanted to relax in the steaming water, which originated from hot springs. Learn about the lives of the Romans as you walk through the site, exploring the four sections: the Sacred Spring, Roman Temple, Roman Bath House, and artifacts from the baths.

Your day trip ends with return to London for drop-off in Kensington or Victoria.

After our London pickups begin our journey to the Ferry port in Dover for our crossing at 7:35am. Our first stop is Ypres where you will have plenty of free-time to explore the famous town with historic connections to World War 1. You may want to visit the famous Flanders Battlefield or the many cemeteries within the town such as the Spanbroekmolen British Cemetery. Or perhaps the Market Square may interest you with its mixed array of upmarket restaurants, chocolate stores, beer houses, fashion shops and plenty more.

At approximately 1:30pm we will travel to Ostend and check in to our hotel. The rest of the afternoon and evening is free for you to discover the seaside town. You may enjoy visiting the many museums such as the Atlantic Wall Museum or perhaps you would prefer the town center and its large fish market. Whatever you chose, there is definitely plenty to do in this beautiful town!

On the second day we take a short journey to the magnificent medieval city of Brugge. Often referred to as the ‘Venice of the North’ Brugge is packed with historic buildings and plenty of things to do. Why not take a boat ride along the canal or maybe visit the Historic center or shop at the market. You may also want to get some last minute photos by climbing the 366 steps to the top of the Belfry in the city center and enjoy a panoramic view of Brugge. We will then depart late afternoon to return to London at approximately 11:30pm.

We begin at 8am from Gloucester Road tube station, in the convenient Kensington area of Central London!  We travel by luxury midi-coach, with a maximum group size of 28 for a more enjoyable tour!  We make our way to the Kent coast with our guide entertaining you on the way with stories from the area!  We stop at the Battle of Britain memorial on the Kent Coast!  From here we enjoy amazing coastal views, and our first views of the Dover Cliffs!  We continue to the White Cliffs Visitor Centre on the top of the spectacular chalk cliffs!  Enjoy unrivalled views of the White Cliffs of Dover and the English Channel, and maybe even see France in the distance on a clear day!  Take an optional short walk along the cliff-top paths for more spectacular views!  Our next stop is Canterbury, a wonderful historic city!  Our guide will take you on a walking tour, before allowing time for lunch and exploring the city!  Your admission to the breathtaking Canterbury Cathedral is included!!  We arrive back to London at 6.30pm approx after a fun-filled day!

Depart from London and travel out of the city in your air-conditioned coach toward the majestic Windsor Castle. Home of the British Royal Family for 900 years, Windsor is the world's largest and oldest occupied castle and widely considered one of England’s finest. Explore the lavishly-decorated State Apartments and St George's Chapel with your guide and hear of the castle’s fascinating history and heritage.

Continue on through the rolling green Wiltshire landscape to Stonehenge, a collection of stones dragged to this lonely plain near Salisbury 5,000 years ago. This ancient stone circle is still a place of strong spiritual significance, and continues to capture the imagination of the many visitors it welcomes each year. Why the stones were placed here and what purpose they served remains a mystery though, so wander around the site at your leisure and decide for yourself why these age-old rocks have found themselves here. Take a look around the visitors’ center and learn the history of this ancient, mysterious site.

Next, hop back in your coach and continue onward to Bath, famous for its elegant Georgian architecture and widely considered one of England’s prettiest cities. Follow your guide on a panoramic tour of Bath and be enchanted by the town's beautiful streets and alleyways, capturing the sites on camera as you go. You'll see Bath Abbey and the much-photographed Pulteney Bridge, modeled on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. During the tour, visit the city’s famous Roman Baths — the best preserved Roman spa from the ancient world.

At the end of your time in Bath, travel back to London’s Victoria Coach Station where your day trip concludes.

Leeds Castle sits deep in the heart of the magnificent Kent countryside amid 500 acres of landscaped parkland. The early arrival promises an almost private visit to the Castle, where Henry VIII retreated to escape the plague that raged in London during his reign. As the ultimate Tudor treat, upon arrival at Leeds Castle you will be greeted by an expert guide. Learn about the history of this magical castle and sample a glass of mead as Henry VIII would have had! (During the summer, Mead is unavailable on Saturdays).

Visit Canterbury Cathedral, the home to 104 Archbishops since Augustine, Canterbury is a magnificent medieval city with a wealth of history. Discover the spot where Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in 1170. Learn the intriguing history behind this masterpiece of medieval architecture and appreciate the spectacular stained glass windows, many of which have survived from the 12th and 13th centuries.

The White Cliffs of Dover, admire the famous White Cliffs of Dover, with a photo opportunity on the stunning stretch of coastline that faces continental Europe. You'll also get the chance to see Dover Castle, an impressive medieval fortress rising over the English Channel.

Greenwich, set right beside the River Thames, Greenwich is bustling with fine maritime landmarks. See the Royal Observatory and world–famous Cutty Sark, a fascinating 19th–century ship as well as the Old Royal Naval College designed by Sir Christopher Wren.

River Thames boat ride, get a fresh perspective on the city sights with a boat ride on the River Thames from Greenwich to Embankment Pier. Pass Tower Bridge and stunning St. Paul’s Cathedral along the route. Estimated arrival time to Embankment Pier, is around 6.30pm where the tour finishes.

You will be met by your guide and board your comfortable air conditioned coach departing from central London at 9am. You will receive informative commentary about the show and the locations you visit on your journey out to Oxfordshire where the first stop of the day will be the beautiful village of Bampton. Here you will be given a fully guided walking tour of the village which was featured as Downton village and you will be able to spot the post office, church, Matthews house and many other familiar sites.

Following a tour of the village you will re board the coach and head to the grand finale of the day - Highclere Castle. Here you will have approximately 3 hours to explore the house and grounds of the castle with the aid of our own self guided leaflet which gives details of what was filmed in each room of the castle.

At Highclere there will be a chance for you to take lunch (not included) and get some wonderful souvenirs from the shop. Finally your coach will return you to central London where the day trip ends.

After pickup from a central London meeting point, you’ll be off to Windsor Castle, where more than 900 years of royal history awaits! From William the Conqueror all the way through to the current Queen, successive monarchs have lived here and left their mark on what is now one of the largest continuously occupied castles in the world. Tour Windsor Castle independently, taking time to see St George’s Chapel and the formal State Apartments in all their lavish glory.

Windsor itself is a pretty town full of traditional shops and historic pubs. It was in one of these pubs that Shakespeare was said to have written his play The Merry Widows of Windsor.

After spending your morning in Windsor, enjoy your journey back through the English countryside on a comfortable, air-conditioned coach. Your tour ends in Knightsbridge (central London), at the cozy Tea Clipper pub, situated right next to the famous department store Harrods, where you can enjoy a traditional fish and chips lunch.

During your guided walking tour you will see the stunning Bodleian Library and furtively discover unspoilt narrow alleyways, ancient squares and towering spires.

A unique market town, Stratford–upon–Avon is the famous home of William Shakespeare, arguably the world's greatest writer. Visit the picturesque half–timber house where the legendary bard was born, and gain fascinating insights into his childhood.

Be part of Britain’s greatest medieval experience! Deep in the heart of Warwick Castle, the Great Hall is a hive of activity! Immerse yourself in battle preparations and feel the weight of a medieval sword. Become a soldier – try on a battle helmet for size! Visit the spectacular State Rooms and feast your eyes on Victorian party preparations.

After central London pickups, depart for Southampton for our 10am ferry crossing. Upon arrival to East Cowes, you will travel to the first stop, Godshill. Here you will have free time to explore the town. There is plenty to do in Godshill, from visiting the famous model village to the many quant tea rooms. The village also holds a wide range of shops offering local crafts and produce, or perhaps you may enjoy taking a short but steep climb up to the All Saints Church which overlooks the village from a hill.

Next, take a short drive to Shanklin where you will, again, have free time to discover this lovely seaside village. You could take a stroll through Shanklin Chine, a winding woodland with many rare plants, waterfalls and wildlife, or maybe go for a paddle on Shanklin Beach. Perhaps you could take a look in the unique and quirky shops in the Old Village or even take in the stunning views across the Bay from the cliff path.

After a full day in the beautiful Isle of Wight, depart for London for a 5:30pm return ferry crossing and should arrive back in central London for approximately 9pm.

Make your own way to Great Portland Street in central London to meet your expert guide. Then, hop inside your comfortable, air-conditioned coach and relax on the journey to Oxfordshire. As you travel, listen to your guide share entertaining tales and trivia about the British period drama TV series, Downton Abbey.

Day Trip from London

We'll begin your adventure in London with round-trip tickets to Cambridge and detailed instructions provided by Context. (Private tour goers have the option of booking a car.) The train ride is a quick hour, after which our docent will meet us on the platform to begin our tour.

Our walk starts from the Fitzwilliam Museum, a magnificent building dating from the mid-nineteenth century that houses an internationally-renowned collection of European paintings including works by Titian, Tintoretto, Vermeer, and Reynolds. The collection boasts drawings and prints, as well as fine furniture and sculpture, antiquities, coins, medals, manuscripts, and printed books. Fantastic in its own right, we'll use this as a backdrop to discuss the founding of Cambridge and its medieval origins before diving into the campus.

Cambridge Tour

As we perambulate along Trumpington Street, our exploration may take us in myriad directions depending on the interests of the group and the proclivities of our guide. Typical routes include a visit to Peterhouse College, which was founded in 1284, its original hall and the windows by William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones, and Ford Madox Brown. We will probably also visit Pembroke College, with its chapel—the first work of architect Christopher Wren and a fantastic bookend to our popular St. Paul's Cathedral Tour.

On Campus

Because our focus will bridge history and aesthetics, we often include Queens' College, with its absolutely beautiful medieval Old Court, home to the chapel, library, and dining hall, along with the eighteenth-century sun and moon dial (one of few in the world) and the “Mathematical Bridge," an 18th century engineering marvel. Finally we may stop by King College, founded in 1441, and its chapel, the icon of the city of Cambridge and a real masterpiece of English architecture, with its fan-vaulted ceiling and Rubens' famous altarpiece, "The Adoration of the Magi."

Scholars and Traders

When the first scholars arrived in 1209, Cambridge was already a flourishing market community that had grown from a Roman fort in the first century BC to a Saxon settlement during the Middle Ages and finally to a Norman stronghold. We'll gain a better appreciation of this visiting the little Anglo-Saxon St. Bene't's Church, which contains the oldest tower in the county.

Here, nothing is labelled, and you are free to wander into the rooms, sit down, and read one of Ede's books or to stop and look at one of the Constantin Brancusi, Barbara Hepworth, or Ben Nicholson works housed here. Oxford Tour

Our starting point will be Christ Church, perhaps the best known of the university's colleges. A discussion of the structured architectural plan of the colleges (including interlocking dormitories, courtyards, dining facilities, and chapels) will segue into a reflection on the town's rich and varied architectural culture, which we will explore further at Sir Christopher Wren's Sheldonian Theatre, James Gibbs' Radcliffe Camera, and even the Malmaison Hotel, a converted nineteenth-century prison. We may then climb the tower of St. Mary's Church to admire those aforementioned "dreaming spires."

A Look Inside

The tour will start at 8:45am with pickup from your hotel or private accommodation in London. Board your private, modern, heated and air-conditioned vehicle which can comfortably seat 7 travelers. Your driver/guide will tell you all about the history and legends of each site visited, they will entertain you as you drive around the country with stories and legends of UK history, life and culture.

The first stop will be the wonderful Stonehenge (entrance not included) where you will spend approximately 1.5 hours at the site. The guide will fully walk you around the entire site of Stonehenge including the visitor center and the stone circle itself.  Listen as your guide shares historical accounts and legends of this world famous site. Your guide will be happy to take photos of you and your group, so no need for someone to be out of the photos.

Next, take a short 10 minute drive to the lesser known, Woodhenge. This site is free to visit, so no ticket is needed. This magical place also contains the site of Durrington Walls and it is critical to the legend of Stonehenge and will help you understand Stonehenge itself in a whole new way! Spend about 30 minutes at the site and again your guide take you for a walk around and tell you all the history and legends. Your guide has special knowledge of one of the best places to take a truly wonderful photo that you will love.

The final stop will be an hour's drive away, and it will be the giant Stone Age circle of Avebury. This is also a free site to visit, so not ticket is required for entry. You will spend between 1.5 to 2 hours at this site. You'll be able to walk inside the stone circle itself, you can touch the stones, and you will even be able to walk on top of the henge if your included for a view that will surely take your breath away.  This is a big change to Stonehenge where travelers are restricted and provides you with an entirely view of stone circles. The guide will again stay with you and walk you around the stones telling you all its stories linked with this site and past history.

Afterwards, and before making the trip back to London, your driver/guide will make an extra stop at a surprise location.  The drive back to London will take around 2 hours, depending on the local traffic, with the tour ending at approximately 7:30pm.

Leave London’s Victoria Station by comfortable coach for a short drive to Windsor, home to the royal family for 900 years and official residence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Windsor Castle's fortified walls dominate the delightful town that has grown up around it over the years (own expense). You will see the lavishly decorated State Apartments and St. George's Chapel.

Stop at a farm nestled in the hills near Cogges and enjoy a hot drink (own expense) in the farm’s rustic cafe before discovering a few of the farm’s filming locations.

Continue to Bampton in the Cotswolds, a quintessentially English village that was used extensively as Downton village throughout the entire series. On a walking tour, see the village church — the site of Lady Mary’s wedding to Matthew Crawley — and the house that was once used as the Crawley family home. Travel onward to continue to Highclere Castle, one of the best-known Downton filming locations, to explore with your guide. Canterbury is a town rightly famous for its cathedral and the pilgrimages that its shrine to Thomas Becket has inspired over the years—including the pilgrims in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. However, there is much more to the UNESCO World Heritage Site than its status as an important religious site. Canterbury Tour

Taking the train from London, we will arrive in town at Canterbury West station. From here, we will enter the city through the Westgate, the same point at which so many pilgrims throughout the years have entered. The gate lies on the site of the Roman gate into the city, so this monument can be seen as representative of much of Canterbury's early history. Depending on the time and the interest of the group, we may pop into the Roman Museum where we will examine the remains of a rich Roman house and its mosaics, while discussing Roman domestic life amongst the elites. Alternatively, we may take the short walk to the church of St. Mary Northgate, where the remains of the Roman wall of the town, almost at its full height, can still be seen in its north wall.

Following the Roman Wall

Continuing along the path of the Roman wall, we'll arrive at St. Martin's Church, whose site marks the beginning of English Christianity in the late sixth century. We will look at the history of this church and its importance. From here, we may consider Eastbridge Hospital, which was built in 1176 in response to the huge influx of pilgrims now arriving to see the shrine of Thomas Becket.

Finding the Friars

A stone's throw away is the thirteenth-century Blackfriars. What is visible today today is all that remains of a much larger friary that was situated on an island in the middle of the Stour River, which runs though Canterbury. The Blackfriars, the Dominican order of monks, were part of one of three orders who settled here in the medieval period. The others were the Greyfriars and Whitefriars, the Franciscan and Carmelite orders respectively. It is to the latter we now go, where we will briefly discuss a recent archaeological dig that has brought to light much of the history of Canterbury.

Take Aways

From there, our walk will take us to the famous, eleventh- and twelfth-century cathedral, where we will examine the location of the Archbishop Thomas Becket's murder and later shrine. This shrine was the focus for the pilgrims arriving in the city and formed the inspiration for Chaucer's 'A Pilgrim's Tale'. The importance of the shrine and its appearance, as it was destroyed during the Reformation, will be discussed, and will serve as the end-point of our walk.

Taking the train from Paddington Station to the city of Bath, we will meet our docent as we disembark, beginning our discussion along the cobbled streets as we walk towards the beautiful Gothic abbey. While admiring the nave and the wonderful west façade of the building, we will consider the role of Bath as an ecclesiastical center and wool trading town during the Middle Ages.

Georgian Architecture

Our day will proceed with a visit to the Royal Crescent and the Circus. Possibly the most famous symbols of Bath, these beautiful Georgian structures tell us the story of the city's renaissance. Here, we will take the opportunity to discuss the architecture, the development of England during the eighteenth century, the importance of landscape architecture, and those characters closely linked to Bath, such as Richard Nash and John Wood the Younger—local entrepreneurs who transformed the city into a fashionable getaway and hub of Georgian architecture.

The Roman Baths

We will continue the discussion with another symbol of the city and its origins: the Roman Baths. Here our docent will give an introduction to the museum and how the location of the hot springs determined the foundation of the city in 44 CE. We will discuss the various eras of the building, beginning with the ruins of the Temple of Sulis Minerva under the Grand Pump Room and continuing with the Great Bath. We will also learn how the tradition of using hot springs fell into disuse during the Middle Ages, only to be rediscovered and made fashionable at the end of the seventeenth century.

Following in the footsteps of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, spend the next 3.5 hours independently exploring the studios. Wander along Diagon Alley and pose in front of Ollivanders wand shop, the Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, Gringotts Wizarding Bank, and more. Visit, too, the Ministry of Magic, where you can learn about the mythical government that rules the Harry Potter community.

Greenwich, just a short trip down the Thames from London, was an important port and center of naval activity for the British over several centuries, famous—of course—for the Greenwich Meridian, against which all longitude is measured. On this Greenwich Tour we'll take a Thames River cruise with a historian, and then spend several hours visiting some key sites in Greenwich, including the Royal Observatory and Cutty Sark.

Thames River Cruise

We begin at Embankment in central London where we'll board the Clipper Thames, one of London's riverboats, with our historian docent, heading east. Our journey will take us through the heart of London, and from our vantage point royal palaces and modern government buildings will illuminate the River's role as a power base, while old warehouses and wharfs will illustrate the working river, and bridges will tell the story of the areas previously divided by the River. Along the way our docent will talk about the role of the river, especially as it pertains to Britain's relationship with the sea. Finally, we'll arrive in Greenwich, house of the Royal Observatory, the Queen's House, the newly restored Cutty Sark, and many more important sites.

Greenwich Tour

In Greenwich, we will begin our walk by discussing the world famous ship and last surviving tea clipper, the Cutty Sark, which will function as a frame of reference during our tour. From here, we will move on to other relevant sites including the Old Royal Naval Academy, where we will discuss the history of the site, from its origins as a royal palace favored by the Tudors and birthplace of Henry VIII, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, through its complete Baroque rebuilding during the Restoration, to its transformation into the Royal Naval Hospital, and, finally, into a college under the supervision of Sir Christopher Wren and Nicholas Hawksmoor. A Lesser known London

If time allows, our docent will lead us to lesser-known, yet equally intriguing, parts of Greenwich, including Trinity Hospital and Trafalgar Tavern. Then, we will emerge out into Greenwich Park, with scenic views of the first Palladian House in Britain, the Queen’s House, and the National Maritime Museum. Beyond the perfectly manicured lawns of the Park, a path through the trees leads us to a small hill on which the Royal Observatory and Flamsteed House are built. Once we reach the top the hill, we are presented with a wonderful view of London, both old and new, spread out before us with the River Thames cutting a silver ribbon through the city, separating the historic site of Greenwich from the modern buildings of Olympic Park.

Where do we meet? Where does it end?

We meet in central London, at Embankment Pier. The tour ends in Greenwich, where you are free to explore on your own or get lunch. It's very easy to get back to central London on your own via the Clipper Thames. Ferries are frequent throughout the day.

Does this tour include the Royal Observatory Greenwich (home of the historic Prime Meridian)?

Depending on the interest of the group, we may or not include the Royal Observatory in the tour. The observatory is on the top of the hill that overlooks Greenwich, so its a bit of a climb. If you are booking a private tour and are interested, we can definitely include it. Tickets are £ 9.50 and can be purchased at the site.

Is this tour accessible?

Yes, the Clipper Thames are fully accessible just like the sites in Greenwich.

What if it’s raining?

Tours operate rain or shine, but in the case of inclement weather, your docent will modify the tour so more time is spent indoors. It never hurts to have an umbrella on hand.

Hop on a train from London to Hampton Court Palace, and visit the most well-known home of infamous Henry VIII. On this Hampton Court Tour, led by a local British historian, we will both appreciate the opulence and historical significance found throughout the grounds. Together, we will inspect the impressive Tudor frontage, the Great Hall, with its remarkable hammer-beam roof, and the huge kitchens that were once used to cook meals for over 1,000 people. We will also be able to see vestiges of several of Henry VIII's six queens, further informing our understanding of the history of the place—Catherine of Aragon’s symbol, the pomegranate, can be seen above a door frame, Jane Seymour’s arms decorate a ceiling, and it is in the Great Watching Chamber that Catherine Howard’s adultery was announced, leading to her execution.

Hampton Court Tour

On the tour, while we will discuss Henry VIII and the Tudor palace, we will also discover that there is much more to glean about British history by visiting Hampton Court. We'll start our tour by disembarking the train and crossing the River Thames, where we will discuss the importance of the river to monarchs over the centuries. Upon entering the palace, our discussion will move to how, in 1236, the Knights Hospitallers of St. John Jerusalem acquired the Manor of Hampton and used it as a grange, or center, for their agricultural estates before it was leased in 1508 to Cardinal Wolsey, Henry VIII’s Chief Minister. Wolsey carried out vast building works and turned the manor into a magnificent palace; as such, we will discuss both his architectural innovations and his life.

A Royal Residence

In the late 1600s, Hampton Court was adopted by the joint monarchs, William III and Mary II. They hired the great Baroque architect Sir Christopher Wren (the subject of our Christopher Wren Churches Tour) to rebuild the King’s and Queen’s Apartments. We will see the rooms that they used for public ceremonies as well as for private moments. while discussing the functions of these rooms and the daily lives of the monarchs who used them.

Royal Opulence

The Prince and Princess of Wales, the future George II and Queen Caroline, also lived at Hampton Court and redecorated the apartments using fashionable architect and interior designer William Kent. On our travels through the apartments, we will also see great works of art from the Royal Collection, including paintings, precious sixteenth-century tapestries, and the Renaissance masterpiece by Mantegna, "The Triumphs of Caesar."

To The Gardens

Then we will move onward to the gardens, where we will discuss the history from the Tudors to today and wander through the many different areas, from the formal gardens to the orchard, from the 200-year-old Great Vine to the Rose Garden, as well as to the site of Henry VIII’s tiltyard where tournaments were held. At the end, if you still have the energy, you might like to get lost in Hampton Court’s famous maze.

The walk begins at Hampton Court station and ends inside the palace grounds. Your confirmation email will have the exact meeting point details along with a map, and emergency phone number. Hampton Court is very easy to get to by train. South West Trains run direct from London Waterloo to Hampton Court. The journey only takes 35 minutes.

Is Hampton Court accessible?

Hampton Court Palace is an historic building and, therefore, has uneven surfaces. We therefore recommend that wheelchair users bring their own wheelchair for comfort and ease. Most of the routes within the palace are accessible to visitors unable to climb stairs as there is a lift to take visitors to the State Apartments on the first floor. Staff and docents will be happy to help. However, many of the staircases are wide and shallow (having been built for William III who was asthmatic).

Is this a walking intensive tour?

The walk is at a leisurely pace. There are occasional opportunities to sit, use the restroom, and get something to drink if needed.
